Sharon Talks About Songwriting

Sharon was recently asked (on Twitter!) to sponsor the Young Songwriters Competition being run by Charity Goods in the UK.

While she was in Spain filming the video for her upcoming single “Everybody’s Got To Learn Sometime” she called into the Gran Melia Don Pepe hotel in Marbella to borrow their piano and film this quick video message to all the young songwriters.

Leave a comment for Sharon and let her know what you think of butterflies and what your favourite song is!

Hope you love it,
Team Sharon

P.S. Look out for a sneak peek of “Butterflies” from the upcoming album!

I like what I've heard so far. Looking forward to the new album. Oh, and it's nice to see you as a brunette again. Sorry, didn't like the blond look on you. You are much hotter with dark hair.

    Aloha, Tim

Butterflies and Dream of you are my favourites off the album for sure! Thanks for sharing. x

I'm willing to help you come up with more lyrics, how about you break up and we can fall in love? Ok, we'll put that on the back burner for now. Just Imagining!

Now that you've done the Spanish thing how about Irish country.
Have you ever thought about telling a story similar to the way Jim Croce does,
And How about a duet with Garth brooks singing “Wrapped Up In You” .

The black cowgirl hat looked pretty gooooood.

You are just as good as Lennon but I do think the variety in songs/styles is what kept the Beatles constantly relevant throughout the 60s They kept evolving. You need to do the same.

Absolutely loved the video, Sharon! Thanks so much for sharing your approach to songwriting.

And the song…. Wow. You've succeeded in giving me the chills with that little snippet of the song. It's absolutely amazing, and I can't wait to hear the entire album.

“Butterflies” is just beautiful. Beautiful melody, beautifully song and beautifully excited. Excellent song. My favorite song, based on a 30 second sample is “Real World” because it seems to get everything just right and there is a gravity to it that shows the strength of your songwriting. “Love Me Better” and “Ears Painted On” are also brilliant.

  • Ana Dundalk

    Butterflies is beautiful!
    Thanks for the video! =)

  • minnie swirl

That should be “beautifully sung” in the first sentence. I guess I got carried away by the beauty of the song. hee hee

  • minnie swirl

OMG! I'm losing it. Let's try that second sentence AGAIN:

“Butterflies” is just beautiful. Beautiful melody, beautifully SUNG and beautifully EXECUTED. Oy! Proofread much…***shakes head in embarrassment***

Sharon! It's great you are encouraging young song writers like this- even with your busy schedule counts down to your release date! I love the song Butterflies, but I love even more how you walk us through how you wrote it. It's very interesting to hear the thought process behind your creative genius! Can't wait for your album. I am not listening to any previews. I want to hear it all full on when I get your album in my hands!

    Lots of love from Texas~

Ow, Sharon, It’s perfect! I think the album (at ex libris) is relaxing to be listened for whole day. Besides singing and playing, you really are a poet who knows how to capture the deepest emotions. I hope that other people may also realize the grandeur of simplicity, in your songs.

The song I like most is “Our Wedding Day” because it reminds me that God is witness to the daily struggles of each one of us. The only song that sounds like the Corrs is “Cooley's Reel” It may have been risky to change much, but after all, Sharon wants to show her musical essence.

Oh, and congratulations to all the other musicians, and all those who contributed to her dream come true, of course!

Many virtual kisses from Brazil and God continue to bless you and your magical family.

I just love Butterflies & the fact that you are sharing your genius with us Sharon. I don't need to say much more that hasn't already been covered but I think you really lift me out of the mire of everyday existance.
And you look adoreable in your Beatles shirt. xx Dan.

Butterflies has such a haunting beauty, what a melody!:) You almost had me speechless here (completely so being fairly impossible, it's GOOD! :p)
Song writing seems so easy when you put it. I love that, I am happy music makes so much sense to you and means so much to all of us.
    Thank you for that!

Wrote the first 6 lines 2 years back. Wrote a 100 other songs after that. But somehow after I saw your video I completed this. Will play it for you on the piano if we ever cross paths… Thank you for the inspiration. Hope you read this just so you know the stuff you put up on your website serves more than just as promotion.

    Take a walk with me
Hold my hand for a while
Be the one to say you’ll always be there
    Take a walk with me
Touch my heart with your smile
Be the one to show me you really care

Maybe its just for a short time
Maybe its not going to last
Maybe there is to be no tomorrow
Maybe you won’t recall this moment once past
But give me this moment to cherish
Give me this memory to keep

    Take a walk with me
    Strolling side by side
Be the one to make love real for me
    Take a walk with me
    Brush my fears aside
Be the one to show me how life can be

Maybe happiness is too much to ask for
Maybe forever is not meant to be
Maybe soul mates is not the word for us
Maybe today ends the story of you and me
But give me a hope that someday maybe
There might be love in store for me

…I was once told that when a butterfly is flying then it creates tremendous airstreams hundreds and thousands of miles away…. This is what I wish to you and your new album. I love you!

  • Raymond
