The violin sold for £1600!

The amount of money raised from the sale of Sharon’s violin is enough to set up a borehole in a community and provide safe water for up to 2,000 people. A building of a borehole can completely transform the lives of a whole community.

Above is a photo of an Oxfam supported well that was built in Malawi. It is the only reliable water source in a village in southern Malawi that has a population of 3,000. Approximately 912 families are benefiting from this single well.

The Voice

The show, which is judged by Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine in the US, is the freshest talent show taking the world by storm and has already been a huge hit in both Holland and the US.

This week RTE have announced that Westlife’s Kian Egan, Brian Kennedy and former The Blizzards singer turned solo artist, Bressie are three of the judges. The fourth judge is (as you may have already guessed)…. Sharon Corr!

Donations to Oxfam shops have reduced dramatically over recent years. Oxfam is launching Make Space for Oxfam this week, a campaign encouraging people to make space in their wardrobes and homes by donating items to Oxfam that they no longer use.

Even if you only pick one item your local Oxfam shop would love it. You can be sure they will look after it, find someone else who will love it for longer, and make as much money as possible to help poor people around the world.

Myself, Miriam O’Callghan and Tom Dunne are all supporting this campaign and have each donated an item to Oxfam that is of sentimental value and that has a unique story associated with it.

I donated a very special violin. It was a gift I received a few years ago, custom made for me by Barcus Berry. It has been happily living in my home in the space below my piano, but I have decided to give it to my local Oxfam shop where I know it will make a really big difference to people living in poverty.

We hope that by supporting this campaign that it will encourage other people to do the same. Stock in Oxfam shops has reached critically low levels.

The Oxfam shop is the foundation upon which much of Oxfam Ireland’s work is built and directly supports Oxfam’s ability to carry out its ongoing programme work in countries in Southern and Eastern Africa as well as responding to emergencies such as the current food crisis in East Africa.

Oxfam Ireland has a network of 51 shops including specialized shops such as Oxfam Bridal and Oxfam Home. Oxfam accepts donations of everything from clothes, books, homeware and music.
